Knowing the Three Types of Memory Foam Will Make a Ton of Difference

The use of memory foam is an increasing trend due to the satisfaction it had guaranteed. There are three main kinds of memory foam, and all of them differ in materials and other significant factors. Here are the properties of the three memory foams.

Traditional Memory Foam

The traditional memory foam is made from petrochemicals, and from the first time it was created, the process remains the same. In terms of durability, the traditional memory foam has a density range of 3 to 7 pounds, which is considered to be acceptable since the ideal range is 4 to 5 pounds. However, the downsides of traditional memory foam are its poor heat dissipation, its high petrochemical content, which produces uncomfortable odor and the long “stuck feeling” of 45 to 60 seconds, which is uncomfortable for the user. The typical price of traditional queen size memory foam is $1500.

Gel Memory Foam

This kind of foam came from the traditional one combined with gel. The gel decreases the odor coming from the petrochemicals of the traditional memory foam, and the gel also improves the heat dissipation by having the gel evenly distributes the heat to the mattress for a period of time (the gel will heat up eventually), giving a cooler ambiance. The stuck feeling also shortened, and it is now from 30 to 45 seconds. However, its downside is its poor durability, which ranges from 3 to 4 pounds. Gel memory foam has an average cost of $1150 for queen size.

Plant-based Memory Foam

This foam is a result of a vast improvement of the previous types of memory foams in order to address their disadvantages. Plant-based memory foam is relatively larger, but has less petrochemical content, producing fewer odors. Its large size creates better breathability, and consequently, cools better than the gel type. Also, the “stuck feeling” is significantly shortened to 5 to 8 seconds, and the durability is in the ideal range. Also, its price is way smaller than the other memory foams, as it costs $849 for the queen size. Basically, plant-based memory foam is the ideal foam for all.
