I have too many favorites but I love when Judi laughs (or corpses as I've learned they say in Britain!) One of those moments in ATGB is when she and Lionel are driving to the country at 4 a.m. and get lost. Jean absolutely loses it when Lionel can't get his seatbelt on. To the opposite extreme are the intensity you see in Macbeth and Absolute Hell. The "silent scream" at the end of the Banquet scene is so powerful when contrasted with the real scream - more of a wail - at the end of the sleepwalking scene. She holds it for 24 seconds! At the end of Absolute Hell, her anguish and terror at being alone and her closing lines where she repeats "Oh hell" numerous times. The gamut of emotions Dame Judi portrays is just amazing.

  Absolutely bloody hell ...

These two links pasted above are to videos that have been newly posted about Dame Judi on "You Tube". Apparently, the more views that the You Tube videos get the more prominent the placement, and I can't think of a better thing than to have her artistry available to as many people as possible. I couldn't think of a better place to start to share the info than on a website so wonderfully dedicated to her. Great job on the site as well!

Date: April 14, 2007

I love the episode when Jean and Judy are shopping for a wedding frock, and Jean is a bit out of sorts trying to find the right dress. Everyone keeps referring to her as the "mother of the bride" and she keep saying "No, I'm the bride." I have another favourite moment, in Ladies in Lavender when she is teaching Andrea English with the piece of paper.

One of my very favourite pieces of writing and the delivery by Mike in AFR is when he & Elaine break up and he takes Elaine aside and says 'You see being with someone some of the time, is not the same as being with someone all of the time ....What I mean, is that we like the best of each other and all the rest, the bits in between, because there are, there's the dull bits, the tired bits and the angry bits and when you balance all those bits up against the best bits, well its a terrible risk isn't it?... Elaine then says. "Youre talking about Laura".... This small piece is delivered beautifully and is just so true to our real lives. I treasure my AFR & ATGB DVDS and after watching them repeatedly, they still cause me to crack up laughing or sigh with fondness.

During my annual viewing of A Fine Romance, the scene where Mike gets a bit tipsy when he and Laura are house-sitting cracks me up . . . Michael is hilarious.

Subject: ATGB Episode 5, Series 4 -- The Proposal

Of all the wonderful scenes in ATGB, the Proposal of Lionel to Jean is my very favorite. Even with the funny little things that happen, it is so heartfelt and beautiful.

I love the scene in "Can You Hear Me Thinking" where Judi is crying in their sons room and Michael keeps repeating "Don't cry, darling, I'm here."   It is so sweet.

 CYHMT     It's so cruel ...

"I saw you and I stopped breathing" is such a romantic line that I have to choose this as my favorite. How could you not love the man who told you that.

Laura (Judi) goes to the dentist and runs away from Mike. He has to catch her and escort her into the surgery. Hilarious stuff and can lift my mood at any time and on any day. Her skill is breathtaking!!!

  AFR - S2E2 - Friend ... Lover

AFR - S2E2 - You're a Little Devil

Doesn't include the runaway scene but these two are pretty good as well

ATGB remains an incredible series that never gets old in the viewing. It's difficult to chose only 1 scene out of all the episodes but 2 scenes especially stand out - 1 is the proposal, which is joyous, poignant and funny. But the highlight is much later in the series when Lionel, attempting to surprise Jean with a special trip that goes awry, gives her a copy of his 38+ year old letter, which she never received, that he discovered at the War Museum. Knowing that she was loved now was enhanced by the knowing she was loved then.

Could the song Canaries from Merry Wives be added? Judi sings it with Brenden O'Hea in Merry Wives. It is on the soundtrack. I think everyone would enjoy it. It is such an upbeat number. Thanks, Chris. Linda

I'm adding the link here until I update the other pages:
